This Is the Turning Point
The Sunday after the recent tragedy where Charlie Kirk was shot, my pastor shared a message that truly moved me. Rather than focusing on the event itself—or the people involved—he reminded us of one of Jesus’ most familiar parables: the shepherd who left the ninety-nine to go after the one.
But then he said something that caught me off guard.
“You are the one.”
That truth sank deep into my heart.
We are the ones Jesus came to rescue—not because we deserved it, but because He loves us. Each of us has wandered. Each of us has been pursued and redeemed by His grace.
In that moment, my perspective shifted. It’s easy to look at the brokenness in our world and point to “that one”—the person who failed, who sinned, or who caused harm. But Jesus asks us to look inward first. To examine our own hearts. To ask, What sin or complacency might I need to release?
This, I believe, is our turning point.
It’s not a time to hide in fear or shrink back from the truth, but to step forward with courage—trusting that even if speaking truth comes at a cost, eternity with Christ is worth it.
When I created the intro for my podcast, Courageous Retirement, some people questioned the imagery.
“You’ve got the word courageous and a picture of a Bible,” they said. “Shouldn’t you show someone jumping out of an airplane?”
But that’s not the kind of courage God calls us to. True courage isn’t found in thrill-seeking or adventure—it’s found in quiet obedience. It’s choosing to stand firm in faith when the world says, “stay silent.” It’s offering hope and truth to a generation searching for meaning. It’s remembering that no matter our age or stage of life, God still has a purpose for us.
So today, I want to challenge you—as I challenge myself—to take that next faithful step. To speak when God prompts you. To reach out to the one who’s lost. To live your faith boldly and love without fear.
Because this—right here—could be your turning point.
