Finding the Positive

I’m one of those people who is always looking to find the positive in every situation. If someone says something that could be taken offensively, I look for a perspective that they surely must have meant that was intended to be encouraging. If something bad happens, I try to discern how God will be able to turn it to the good. I have to be honest though, my recent run-in with a not-so-friendly spider had me really searching for the good. I mean it took me weeks to come up with something, but I am happy to report that I finally did!

If you are jumping into my story without the background, it would be helpful for you to know that two months ago I was bitten by a brown recluse spider. I can honestly say that it was the most painful and ugly thing I’ve survived to date. Due to having to change my bandages four and five times a day and not being able to walk, sit or even lie down very well, it was really difficult for me to do my normal routine. To be honest, although I didn’t get physically sick as some people do, I didn’t feel like doing much of anything. So I didn’t. I quit making calls. I quit writing my blog. I even quit posting on FaceBook.   (Unbelievable, right??)

I’m happy to say that with the exception of the ugly scar, I am fully recovered and back to my normal routine. As I was out for my morning walk recently it occurred to me how good it felt to have my life back again. That is when it struck me that the good that came from my experience is that it gave me the opportunity to see what it is like for people who don’t feel well on a regular basis.

Having a glimpse of what life would be like when you are in pain or constantly not feeling yourself helped me to see a side of life I’ve not really been exposed to before. And it made me feel even more emboldened to want to help people feel better! So much of the illnesses we are experiencing as a nation, unlike a spider bite, are the result of habits and routines we’ve developed over years of just doing what feels good instead of what is good for us.

I understand its easy to think that you’ve tried everything and there is nothing to help you feel better. But what if it could be as simple as changing a few minor routines throughout your day? Maybe the last thing you tried didn’t work, but what if the next one did? What if you could design an eating program that helped you get well without giving up the things you love? What if you could go off your meds and finally start living life again? Wouldn’t it be worth a try?

One of the things I’ve learned is that our brains do not like change. It is completely happy to have us feel sick or tired or in pain because that doesn’t take any new effort, but we need to challenge it and find ways to go beyond our comfort zone and reach for more.

Remember when you had big dreams for your life? Are you really going to let your brain’s unwillingness to try something different hold you back from going for it? I didn’t think so!

Let’s work together to begin those little changes and over a very short amount of time, you will see that you have a whole new life and can feel fabulous. Just the way you were intended to feel! It is never too late to be your best you. I am far from perfect or living a perfect life, but every day gets me closer to my goals.  I’d really like to have you join me on this journey to true wellness and living a full life so you can be reaching yours too.
